Mrs. Kantounatakis Second Grade Class
Miss K’s second grade class:
In Math they’ve been working on graphing and data collection.
Science has been about seasonal changes and harvest time.
In Social studies they’re studying geographical features and landforms.
Miss K says: “To celebrate harvest time my class took a field trip to the local nursery and picked pumpkins for our classroom. The girls love hands-on experiments”
They investigated the pumpkins and gourds by measuring, weighing, testing for sinking or floating, cutting the pumpkins open, dissecting the insides, removing the seeds, and then used their magnifying glasses to explore the inside of the pumpkins, After recording their observations on their lab sheets they carved their pumpkins for decorations for their Halloween Party. Miss K was even going to bake the seeds and make pumpkin pies to share at their Halloween Harvest Celebration.
When asked what parents can do at home to reinforce lessons at school Miss K said: “Reading is Fundamental. Read every night with your child to improve their abilities in all subject areas.”
